I learnt about sentence fragments, comma splices and run on sentence. A sentence fragment is an unfinished sentence-(doesn't have a certain object or verb.)A comma splice is two phrases that have just been joined by a comma without any punctuation. A run on sentence is two independent clauses that are joined together with the wrong punctuation.
On Tuesday we had Tech arts where we had to make a straw go across the room using a balloon, two pins, thread, tape and scissors. So we attached the string to the pins and stuck in the two opposite walls. Then we attached the straw to the balloon and blew up the balloon and hung it on the thread. Mrs Tyson told us on Friday that when she was watching us do this project she said that if your balloon spins around it was because we had it facing a little bit on an angle down so it would instead of going vertically opposite it would try go the opposite of where the balloon is facing. We tried it in the classroom/Lab and in the foyer. We didn't do it outside because we didn't have enough time.
On Wednesday we started fractions and I started EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS.
They are fractions that can be the same but just different denominators and numerators. Such as one half and two quarters or two thirds and four sixths or even eight twelfths. We also did Otago Maths that is basically problem solving. There was one really hard one we you had to put eight numbers into these boxes to make the arithmetic method true. Those were reasonably easy even though it took up a lot of time. We also did inter class volleyball where we versed room 12 and won. I'm glad that we are sussing out our volleyball team and learning all the other weaknesses of other teams. After lunch we did French where I learnt how to say how I feel to someone. I'm glad that I'm getting more and more good at this language. During Jump Jam we taught our team a new routine called Freaks. The thing I like about it is the fact that it's really energetic and fun.
On Thursday we had extension Maori where I had learnt my mihi off by heart and told it to the class. I'm glad that I did it because I got two signatures and now I'm only four away from getting my bronze badge. For Kapahaka we learnt the rest of the Moteatea. It will be really hard to memorize at the end but hopefully I would've practiced enough.
On Friday we did a quick decimals test where we had to find the total value of a number or ordering decimals or even changing a decimal into a percentage or the other way around. I'm glad that I did practice these really and learnt what they meant at the same time because we had to explain how to order decimals and how to change a decimal into a % or other way around. To order decimals you basically just do this. You try and find the longest number with decimal places. You count them and then just add zero's on the end so that they all are the same and it's easier to work out.
Order these fractions in ascending order:
4.5000 5th
4.0500 2nd
4.5500 7th
4.5050 6th
4.0505 3rd
4.4300 4th
4.0050 1st
4.5600 8th
To change a decimal into a percentage, all you do is see if a decimal has over the hundredth column(0.03)that would equal 3% because it's out of hundred % so it is three percent. If it says this(0.6), It's just 60% because the six is in the tenths coloumn so all you do is times it by ten. To do the other way around it's basically just the same but the opposite.
After that we did maths where I learnt about improper fractions, proper fractions and mixed numbers.
Improper fractions are fractions is where the numerator is bigger than the denominator.
A proper fraction is when the denominator is bigger than the numerator.
A mixed fraction is when it's over a whole number and has the extra left over fractions by the side.
When we had Tech Arts we learnt about Isaac Newton and how he became a brilliant scientist. He called everything object and if it moved he would call it in motion and if it didn't move he would call it at rest. Ms Tyson gave us an activity where we had to build a marble run that had to be exactly 20 seconds when got to the end. The materials that we are using areScissors
Two pieces of cardboard
Tape
Pencil
Meter ruler
Ruler
Ms Tyson also said that there is always a force against another such as gravity, there is always a force that's going against another. She said that there are four ways to change a force.
Put one on
Take one off
Weaken one
Strengthen one
So Julia and I started our marble run.
After lunch we had Maori where we had to do a story on the Waikato river. My group and I have decided that we should do
Karapiro
Huka Falls
Turangawaewae
Hurdle races
The reason why we are doing these is because we think there really important places during the Waikato times.
So that is all that happened this week. I'll keep you guys updated on everything. Au revoir
